Games Done Quick – Speed Gaming for Charity!

Getting it done quick like for charity!
Getting it done quick like for charity!

Running a series of charity video game marathons, Games Done Quick leverages the power of gaming to generate funds for charities such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The marathon events last for days and feature high-level game play by speedrunners cranking through games at lightening speed. The level of talent by the speedrunners is staggering and the fact that they donate their time and energy over the course of several days to raise money for charities makes it all the more amazing!  The speedrunners play games ranging from Shadow the Hedgehog to Resident Evil 3 to Ghosts n Goblins (and old favorite of mine!). Check out the Games Done Quick Full Schedule!

Over the years Games Done Quick has raised tons of money for various charities.  Coming off the heels of a successful event in January of this year, Games Done Quick is heading into an event this weekend (July 25, 2015). For the affectionately truncated SGDQ2015, online registration is currently closed, but a limited number of in-person registrations will be accepted until the cap of 1200 players is reached. In-person registration begins at 11 am on Saturday July 25, 2015 at the check in desk and the cost is $50.

Summer Games Done Quick 2015 (get the SGDQ now?) is the event this weekend, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.

The event will be held in St. Paul, MN from July 26th to August 1st and will be attended by thousands!

You can check out the full schedule or learn more about the event on the attend page.

If you are in the area, get off your butts and get over there and see what you can do to help!

SGDQ2015 is one of two events that Games Done Quick holds every year, the other being a Winter event.  The Winter event this year was held in January and once SGDQ2015 is done, I’m sure the Games Done Quick team will be gearing up towards the Winter 2016 event.

Order rad shirts and support charity - oh yeah!

If you are unable to make it out to the event this weekend but still want to help, you can also pick up some t-shirts from The Yetee, where a few retro designs have been updated.

$1 from every shirt sold goes to charity.  Does it get any better than this?  Seriously people!  Shirts AND charity?  C’mon!!  What are you waiting for?  Order some shirts and show your support!!

In addition to their website, you can catch the Games Done Quick Facebook page for more information and check out the various twitch channels listed in the schedule to watch the speedrunners in action.  Big props to all of the big hearted gamers involved in this event!
